OREANDA-NEWS. April 20, 2011. The last weekend’s highlight was the closing of the Water Week celebrations in the Steel Valley. Representatives from Usiminas, the 12th Company of Military Police for Environment and Traffic, NGOs, the Department of Justice for Environment and partner companies of the Verde Vida Environmental Network, boy scouts and students participated in the Water Caravan during the whole morning of March 26, Saturday.

Popular mobilization and donations help to monitor and protect the environment

The Caravan was made up of around 150 people in boats, vans, buses, cars and bicycles, who traveled from Copasa’s Sewage Treatment Station up to the Perdida Bridge in the Doce River State Park. On the occasion, Usiminas handed over a number of donations to the Environment Police.

Under an agreement with the Department of Justice for Environment, the steelmaker delivered 29 items, among which a pick-up truck, a boat trailer, boats, computer, TV set and other important items for the police work in the area of environmental preservation and monitoring.

Then, the group went to Santana do Paraiso waterfall to collect all the objects and wastes unduly disposed in the site.

Now, the Verde Vida Environmental Network participants prepare themselves for the World Environment Day on June 5.
