Rosatom Comments on Japan Seventh Level of Hazard
OREANDA-NEWS. April 19, 2011. Japan’s announcement of the seventh level of danger at the NPP in Fokushima is excessive. The official representative of Rosatom Sergey Novikov expressedthis opinion.
“At first the hazard assessment was underestimated, and now the pendulum has swung to the other side – now it is overestimated”, — he said. In his opinion, political considerations have played a great part in this announcement – for the reproaches towards the government, that it is exaggerating the atmosphere, not to sound. According to his words, “the announcement is excessive: the status of the core destruction is not more than the fifth level”.
According to the experts’ assessments, S. Novikov has noted, the maximum of the sixth level can be truly considered. The seventh level means that people’s health was seriously injured as a result of the accident. In this case, S. Novikov thinks, “even the liquidators have not got maximal permissible doses, most likely, they even won’t have troubles with their health”.
First Deputy Director of the Institute for Nuclear Industry Safety Problems RAS Rafael Arutyunyan shared this point of view. “The population gets only tenths of the radiation from the natural background level”, — he announced and compared the dose with that of a man gets while tomography transmission. Judging by the influence over population, the accident at Fukushima does not reaches even the forth level”, — he considers. According to him, at least one victim should be committed to announce even the forth level, which, fortunately, has not happen and is not expected to”.
“The accident, undoubtedly, is very hard, — the scientist noted, — and the experts will think its details over for a long time. But there are no existing reasons for worrying”. “The subject matter for apprehension won’t appear in any circumstances”, R. Arutyunyan is sure.
