Mail.Ru Group Published New License Agreement with ICQ
OREANDA-NEWS. April 15, 2011. Mail.Ru Group has today published a new license agreement with ICQ. The main goals are to create a safe and user-friendly communication environment for users, legalize alternative ICQ-clients and establish effective channels with the developers of open-source programs.
The new license agreement will serve as a “code of conduct” to establish a safe and convenient environment for users’, as well as to open constructive dialogue with all groups of ICQ-clients. Personal users are not associated with any restrictions, but users are required to follow some simple rules: not to send spam, not to extract information from directories and ICQ databases and not to impose any means that would confuse or offend users.
Dmitry Grishin, co-founder and CEO of Mail.Ru Group said:
“The legalizing and regulating of all existing unofficial ICQ-clients is one of the biggest challenges for Mail.Ru Group. This new licensing agreement shows our willingness and intent to find more acceptable ways of cooperating with other market players to provide safe communication channels for our users. Ultimately, the creation of a safe and comfortable environment for users’ communications is our common goal. Another endorser of our agreement is Nimbuzz who have also recently announced the decision to support the ICQ protocol. We are also in the process of negotiating further cooperation with others such as Adium, Pidgin, R&Q which we hope to announce in due course.”
The major goal of Mail.Ru Group’s agreement with ICQ is to provide safe and easy use of ICQ for users. Further advice from Mail.Ru Group representatives, responsible for ICQ is available at: http://www.icq.com/info/contact_form.html.
