OREANDA-NEWS. April 15, 2011. Wizz Air, the largest low fare - low cost airline in Central and Eastern Europe announced at press conferences today that it would reduce capacity by 26% at Cluj-Napoca Airport. The affected capacity would be accommodated at Tirgu Mures Transylvania Airport.
The decision follows the airline's recent dispute with Cluj Airport management who opened discussions on the existing contract and announced the introduction of new additional airport charges. The airline stated clearly that such new conditions would result in scaling back its operations in Cluj and reallocate capacity in favor of Tirgu Mures.
Subsequently, Wizz Air will reduce its Cluj operating base by one Airbus A320 to two aircraft and move it to Tirgu Mures Transylvania Airport to effectively advance the start of the airline's 15th base to the 5th of May from the earlier announced 16th of June. As a result the Weeze-Dьsseldorf, Roma Fiumicino and Dortmund routes will no longer be served from Cluj:
