Representative of ORLEN Lietuva Becomes Member of Committee at IIA
OREANDA-NEWS. April 15, 2011. Alenas Gumuliauskas, Director of Internal Audit of Public Company ORLEN Lietuva, became the first representative from Lithuania at the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA). IIA is an international association of more than 170 000 internal auditors from 165 countries worldwide. International internal audit standards issued by the IIA are applied in almost all countries of the world, reported the press-centre of ORLEN Lietuva.
A. Gumuliauskas has been appointed a member of the IIA Institute Relations Committee. His candidacy has been endorsed by the Institutes of Internal Auditors of Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia.
“Being appointed a member of one of the IIA committees is a great honor, a professional acknowledgement and, at the same time, huge responsibility”, says the Director of Internal Audit of Public Company ORLEN Lietuva.
According to him, work at the committee is not only an excellent opportunity to interact with the some of the world-class representatives of this profession, be updated and share the news in the field of internal audit, but also a unique opportunity to contribute to the global development of the profession.
A. Gumuliauskas affirmed that the internal audit development in the Middle and Eastern European countries started only a decade ago and so far only few representatives from this region have been appointed members of the International Institute of Internal Auditors.
Established in 1941, the IIA is one of the few non-governmental organizations, whose promulgated standards and recommendations have been acknowledged and applied in most of the countries worldwide. There are 400 people participating in the governing of the IIA on a global level. 100 members of the committees are appointed each year. Main requirements to the candidates are professionalism, previous practice contributing to the development of internal auditor’s profession and ability to create value to the organization on a world scale.
Institute Relations Committee develops and applies the IIA's global development strategy, provides support and assistance to local institutes in facilitating achievement of the IIA's mission and global strategy, oversees and supports the activity of local institutes and promotes closer cooperation of local institutes. Members of the committee are elected for 3-year period and commence the functions in July.
