OREANDA-NEWS. April 14, 2011. Vysota 239, the workshop of Chelyabinsk Tube-Rolling Plant, has manufactured the first batch of striped large-diameter pipes. Vysota 239 has become the first workshop in the world that has started to manufacture branded colour striped pipes. The purpose of striped LDP production is to strengthen long-term partnership relations with clients – companies of the fuel and energy sector and to promote Chelpipe’s high quality products. Due to such bright colour idea LDP manufactured by Chelpipe will be distinguished in any gas or oil pipeline that is in its turn may be considered as tightening of obligations as to quality.

The idea to manufacture striped pipes at Vysota 239 appeared at the workshop construction stage and thus the colour extruder required for application of a spiral strip was provided for in the anticorrosion coating area. The amount of investments to the internal and external coating area is 2.5 bln RUR. The colour strip application technique is similar to that one used for application of external anticorrosion coating – PE is melted in the extruder and is applied with a thin layer as a foam to the finished coating surface. Only ‘white metallurgists’ use colour PE instead of the usual black one.

The first batch of striped LDP, i.e. 5 ths tons, manufactured by Vysota 239 has been supplied to Gazprom. In the nearest future the range of Chelpipe’s colour pipes will be extended to three colours: yellow, orange and blue. Choice of the colour will depend on the working pressure of the gas pipeline for construction of which the pipe is supplied. All single-weld LDP manufactured by Chelpipe will be branded, the colour doesn’t influence on the final value of the pipe. In April Vysota 239 will supply 55 ths tons of colour LDP.
