OREANDA-NEWS. April 14, 2011. The inflation rate in Moldova in March 2011 amounted to 0.8 percent, since the beginning of the year – 3.3%. Data released by the Office for National Statistics revealed that inflation for the last 12 months – from March 2010 through March 2011 – reached 5.8%.

Particularly, food prices in Moldova in the I quarter of 2011 grew 4.7%, prices for non-food products – 0.9%, tariffs for services, rendered to the population, increased by 4.8%. At the same time, in March 2011, prices for good rose 0.7%, for non-food products – 0.3%, tariffs for services, provided to the population, - 1.7%.

The biggest growth of prices for foodstuffs in March this year was seen by sugar – by 12.1%, honey and fresh vegetables – by 1.9%, in both cases. Prices for bread and vegetable oil rose by 1.1% in both cases. Among non-food products, the biggest rise in prices was reported for spare parts for cars – by 4.6%, fuel – 4.2%, building materials – 2.3%.

Tariffs for the international rail traffic rose by 3.8%, housing and communal services – by 3.1%. Kindergartens fee increased by 2.7%. Catering services increased by 1.8%. At the same time, diet eggs dropped in price by 4.4%, pork – by 1.8%, fresh and frozen fish – by 0.5% each, tomatoes – by 0.6%, mineral water and beer – by 0.3% in both cases. Prices for medicines reduced by 1.6%, shoes, clothes, carpets and some kinds of domestic equipment – by 0.3-1%.
