OREANDA-NEWS. April 13, 2011. Ryanair, the world’s favourite airline, today (5th Apr) celebrated record Spanish traffic in 2010 with passenger growth of over 38% to 26.5m, an increase of over 7m passengers switching to Ryanair’s guaranteed lowest fares over Iberia’s high fares and fuel surcharges. Ryanair’s 7m additional passengers created 7,000 new jobs, growing the number of Spanish jobs sustained by Ryanair to over 26,000.

Ryanair’s Spanish growth will continue in 2011 at those airports which are working with Ryanair to lower costs and increase traffic. Ryanair will deliver significant growth at its bases in Barcelona El Prat (+300%), Seville (+90%), Gran Canaria (+50%), Lanzarote (+50%), Tenerife (+50%), Valencia (+40%) and Malaga (+20%).

Speaking in Madrid, Ryanair’s Michael O’Leary said:

“Ryanair’s guaranteed lowest fares combined with our industry leading on-time performance and fewest lost bags continue to attract more passengers away from Iberia and we are delighted that 2010 was a record year for Ryanair in Spain with 26m passengers supporting 26,000 Spanish jobs.

2011 looks set to be another bumper year at those Spanish airports that are working with Ryanair to reduce costs and grow passengers. To celebrate our continued Spanish growth we released 1m €8 seats for travel in May and June. These seats are sure to be snapped up so we urge passengers to log on to www.ryanair.com today.”
