OREANDA-NEWS. April 13, 2011. The final seminar teaching the Aggression Replacement Training (ART) methods was held in Petrozavodsk within the scope of implementation of the Children and Youth at Risk in the Barents Region (2008-2012) international Russian-Norwegian project.

Thirty experts from Karelia including social teachers, educationalists, experts in extended education and social work, psychologists working with children in institutions of education and social service have taken part in the seminar and were issued corresponding certificates.

The Aggression Replacement Training (ART) methods are of high social importance, as they are focused on preventive maintenance of aggressive behaviour of children and teenagers, teaching tolerance in the youth environment.

The basic institutions of social service for approbation and introduction of this technology are social and rehabilitation centers of Nadezhda and Vozrozhdenie, Sampo center of Petrozavodsk, as well as the complex social center of Olonets region.

The course of rehabilitation within this program in 2010 was taken by 235 minors at the age of from 6 to 15. Children and teenagers have acquired skills of control and management of their own aggression, have learned comprehensible ways to express their anger, have raised their positive self-esteem.

Under the initiative of the Norwegian party within the scope of implementation of the plan of cooperation a decision was made to establish a methodical support center for all programs of the Children and Youth at Risk international project implemented within the territory of Karelia and North-West Federal District in 2011. The center is established on the basis of the State educational establishment Institution of Advanced Training of Educationalists of Karelia and assumes organization of a system course training for experts of the republic and other regions of the North-West Federal District within the following programs: Aggression Replacement Training (ART), Family ART, Incredible Years, Family Group Conferences.

Teaching experts these methods and their further introduction in regions of the republic will promote effective interdepartmental cooperation concerning preventive maintenance of family ill-being, child neglect, prevention of abusive treatment in the family.
