OREANDA-NEWS. April 13, 2011. Tata Power, India's largest integrated private power company with many firsts in technological excellence, today, announced the successful commissioning of two new transmission lines of Tata Steel to evacuate power from the Jojobera power plant, to feed the three-metric-tons expansion project of Tata Steel in Jamshedpur, Jharkhand.

The transmission lines 7 and 8 consist of three different sections i.e., 0.9km of underground cable from the plant's 132Kv switch yard to gantry near the material gate, 3.1km is overhead line from the gantry end to Jamshedpur Engineering and Machine Manufacturer Company (Jemco) and finally the 3.5km underground cable from Jemco to Geographic Information System substation.

Speaking on the occasion, PL Manjrekar, general manager, Tata Power, Jojobera, said, “The cutting-edge technology deployed in the commissioning of these two lines will ensure rapid management of disturbance and faults in the network thereby enabling continuous up-time for our customers. We believe that this new technology will create newer benchmarks in the industry in future.”

The commissioning of the transmission lines is a significant milestone for the company, as, for the first time in India, Tata Power has conducted such a stability test through a fibre-optic based differential protection. The transmission line protection has been designed to identify the faulty section accurately thereby reducing the down-time of the line.

The scheme has been designed to optimise the number of current transformers (CTs), relays required and consequently the size relay panels at either end of the transmission line.
