International Conference Considered Shuttle Train Viking Perspectives
OREANDA-NEWS. April 07, 2011. International conference on the development and perspectives of the shuttle train „Viking“ was organized in Vilnius under the auspices of AB „Lietuvos gelezinkeliai“. Marketing and Administration Director Arturas Drungilas participated in this conference and made a report, reported the press-centre of Klaipeda Port.
The container – contrailer train „Viking“ is the joint project of Lithuania, Belarus and the Ukraine railways.
The rain carries 20 and 40 feet containers (semi-trailers and contrailers) that are transported by the seaborn transport from Scandinavia and Eastern European countries to Klaipeda Port and via the ferry terminal Mukranas – Klaipeda. Further they are transported to the Ukraine, Belarus, Near East and Caucasus via Iljichovsk and Odessa Seaports and back. Cars with containers may be transported to Georgia and Armenia via the ferry terminals of Iljichovsk (the Ukraine) – Poti (Georgia), Iljichovsk (the Ukraine) – Batumi (Georgia), and to Turkey – via Iljichovsk (the Ukraine) – Derinze (Turkey) ferry terminals.
Representatives of Lithuania and Georgia authorities, operators of the shuttle train „Viking“ from Lithuania, Belarus and the Ukraine, representatives from European intermodal transportations and East - West transport corridors associations, Lithuanian National Freight Forwarders‘ Association „Lineka“ and representatives of Vilnius Gediminas Technical University and Logistics companies were invited to participate in international conference on development and perspectives of container – contrailer train „ Viking“
During the international conference organized in Vilnius on the 31st of March, 2011 „Project – „VIKING“. Intermodal solutions, development and prospects“ AB „Lietuvos gelezinkeliai“ and Independent Industrialists and Businessmen Association MUSIAD from Turkey signed Memorandum of Understanding.
