OREANDA-NEWS. April 5, 2011. The two nuclear power reactors, each of 220 MW capacity at Narora Atomic Power station in District Bulandshahr, Uttar Pradesh continue to operate safely at power levels 175 MW and 130 MW , after an earthquake of 5.7 magnitude on Richter scale that occurred at 5.01 pm today with its epicenter about 500 km away in Nepal .

The nuclear power reactors located at Rawatbhata in Rajasthan have also remained unaffected from the tremors and continue to be in safe state.

The earthquake intensity witnessed at Narora and Rajasthan nuclear power plants was lower than the operating design basis earthquake, for which the equipment and systems of these nuclear power plants have been designed.
