Bakcell, the first mobile operator in Azerbaijan, is pleased to inform that, it received UGUR-2010 National Award for successful business development strategy in the telecommunications sector. Founded by “Consulting & Business” magazine, UGUR National Award is an annual business event, which recognizes the local businesses with significant and innovative contributions to the development of the economic and business life of the country, reported the press-centre of Bakcell.

Bakcell is one of the biggest investors in Azerbaijan’s economy. With well-targeted investments in 2010, Bakcell has enhanced and optimized its entire network. Bakcell expanded its coverage and now covers more than 95% of the population. The determining factor was the successful strategy to expand the network capacity distribution beyond the capital and across the whole country. Today, over 2,000 base stations are in operation covering 82% of the country’s territory, including the hard-to-reach regions and providing flawless connection quality. Thanks to the measures taken, the number of Bakcell subscribers now exceeds 2.5 million and continues to grow rapidly.

Mr. Yigit Berktash, Bakcell Chief Technical Officer, who accepted the UGUR Award “For the successful business development strategy” on behalf of the company, thanked the organizers for this recognition: “Bakcell is committed to expand its business development portfolio and bring new offers to the market in 2011.”

In 2009 Bakcell was named “Telecommunication Company of the Year” by the Caspian Integration Business Club. In March 2010 Bakcell was awarded the UGUR National Prize as the “Fastest Growing Company” of Azerbaijan. In 2010 Bakcell also received the nominations of “Technology Leader of the Year” and “CSR Leader of the Year” by the Azeri Business Award.
