TEL Reports Status Update on Earthquake (3rd Report)
OREANDA-NEWS. April 04, 2011. We wish to express our deepest sympathies and condolences for the victims of the Pacific Coast of Tohoku Earthquake. We sincerely hope that the afflicted areas can realize a quick recovery.
The current status of our operation is as follows.
The company has confirmed that all employees in affected area are safe.
The followings are the current status of our plants in the affected area.
- Tokyo Electron Tohoku, a plant for thermal processing systems (Oshu City, Iwate)
Employees have begun to work since March 17 and operations have been resumed.
- Tokyo Electron Technology Development Institute, for RLSA (Sendai City, Miyagi)
Employees have begun to work since March 28 and operations have been resumed.
- Tokyo Electron Miyagi, a plant for etch systems (Matsushima City, Miyagi)
Operations have been resumed since March 28. Shipment is expected to restart in late April to
early May. In the meantime, the unaffected Yamanashi plant in Nirasaki City is being utilized as
the primary production site for TEL etch systems to meet customers’ demand.
- Tokyo Electron Miyagi, a new plant for etch systems (Taiwa City, Miyagi)
It has been under construction. Due to the earthquake, the R&D facility and office buildings will
commence operations in July. A production building is scheduled to begin operations in October
along with the impact of small fire accident occurred in February.
We completed to contact all suppliers and more than 90% of them are expected to restart operations soon. We will take necessary measurement to cope with the situation. Overall, the company expects minimal impact on production schedule for the first half of this fiscal year ending March 2012.
Regarding the issue of radioactive pollution, we have already obtained inspection tools. In the meantime, we will implement radiation inspection for all equipments we ship out followed by ISO and IATA standards.
Concerning the issue of expected power shortage in Tokyo/Yamanashi area in summer, we are taking all measurements to minimize the impact on production schedule.
