President Yanukovych Visits Brunei LNG Plant
OREANDA-NEWS. April 04, 2011. President Viktor Yanukovych has visited the Brunei LNG (BLNG) plant in Lumut, Brunei.
During his talks with the leadership of the plant, President Yanukovych was informed on the plant’s history and achievements, and took a short tour of it. He also had the opportunity to examine the work of the Brunei LNG control room.
Speaking at the meeting, President Yanukovych stressed that Ukraine is interested in studying the experience of the Brunei LNG in the production of liquefied gas.
He noted that in March 2010 the Government had approved a plan of construction of an LNG terminal on the Black Sea, noting that the estimated project cost is about one billion dollars.
"The experience you have accumulated in nearly forty years of operation of the terminal is very interesting for Ukraine. Certainly, we would like to use your it," Viktor Yanukovych said, adding that Ukraine and Brunei should discuss partnership relations on the issue.
The President also underscored importance of the subject of natural resources extraction. In particular, he reminded that Ukraine has recently started extracting gas on the Black and Azov Sea shelves.
In addition, Viktor Yanukovych said, there is a possibility of production of shale gas in Ukraine.
The President drew attention to the fact that our country is currently one of the largest gas consumers in Europe and that Western Ukraine has the largest storage facilities on the continent, capable of receiving about 35 billion cubic meters of gas.
He expressed hope for establishing effective partnership with Bruneian enterprises in the future.
