OREANDA-NEWS. March 30, 2011. Vladimir Strzhalkovsky, the General Director and Chairman of the Management Board of MMC Norilsk Nickel (the Company) met with the President of the Republic of South Africa Jakob Zuma in RSA, reported the press-centre of Norilsk Nickel.

The meeting was held as part of the General Director’s business visit to the Republic of South Africa. The parties discussed further development of the Company’s projects in RSA.  Through its subsidiary Norilsk Nickel Africa, the Company currently implements a major investment project Nkomati to develop copper and nickel ore deposits. The project is implemented jointly with South-African company African Rainbow Minerals.

South African President Jakob Zuma expressed high opinion of the Company’s current projects in the country. He emphasized that the Republic of South Africa is ready to proceed with supporting the participation of MMC Norilsk Nickel in new ore extraction and processing projects (nickel, PMG, other) in the South African territory. Mr. Zuma also noted that MMC Norilsk Nickel has significant experience in this area.

The South African President and RF Security Council Secretary Nikolay Patrushev took part in the presentation of the Russian mobile medical lab TOTBOL, which was handed over to RSA representatives with the Company’s participation. Along with diagnostic observation of the country’s population in the remote areas and provision of high-quality and timely aid, TOTBOL equipment can be used as multifunctional interactive information center. Thus, MMC Norilsk Nickel renders active assistance to the country’s social development. “This demonstrates the high level of social responsibility of MMC Norilsk Nickel”, emphasized Jakob Zuma in his speech.
