OREANDA-NEWS. March 28, 2011. Agreement on cooperation in maritime shipping trade between Ukraine and Croatia, which was ratified by the Parliament in mid-February 2011, entered into force.

Implementation of the Agreement will create proper conditions for cooperation development in maritime transport, will allow the major ports to increase the volumes of cargo and reinvigorate the cooperation in the field of safety of navigation. In addition, the agreement provides improvement schemes and rules of sailors stay in ports of Ukraine and Croatia.

It is important that the Agreement provides for creation of joint Ukrainian-Croatian Commission to handle issues that arise in the maritime transport.

"New international arrangements are necessary for Ukraine's reputation growth. We are confident that after this Agreement we will have many others - both in the field of water, road, rail and air transport", the Deputy Minister of Infrastructure Konstantin Efimenko said.

Let us recall, that 288 deputies voted the draft law, developed by Ministry of Infrastructure, on ratification of Agreement between the Government of Ukraine and the Republic of Croatia on maritime merchant shipping.

In addition, between Ukraine and Croatia there is also an agreement signed on navigation on inland waterways, which gives the Croatian ship-owners the right to enter freely the Ukrainian river.
