OREANDA-NEWS. March 25, 2011. Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd. (POWERGRID) has signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Ministry of Power, Govt. of India on March 24, 2011 detailing various targets to be achieved by POWERGRID during FY 2011-12. The MoU was signed by P. Uma Shankar, Secretary (Power), Government of India and Shri S. K. Chaturvedi, Chairman & Managing Director, POWERGRID.

Physical targets set forth for POWERGRID in the MoU 2011-12 include addition of about 6,450 Gigawatt-Circuit Kms. of Extra High Voltage transmission lines & about 18,000 MVA of transformation capacity. Further, as a contribution towards power sector reforms, target of Cumulative Energisation of 31,132 Villages, electrification of 1,731 villages and providing 7.81 Lacs connections to Below Poverty Line (BPL) households has also been set for POWERGRID under Rajiv Gandhi Grameen Vidhyutikaran Yojana (RGGVY). Special emphasis has been given to various activities under Corporate Social Responsibility, Sustainable Development, Corporate Governance, Research & Development etc.

POWERGRID, a Navratna Company and the Central Transmission Utility (CTU) of the country, has been consistently rated as Excellent based on its actual performance vis-a-vis the targets in MoU signed with Ministry of Power since signing of its first MoU for 1993-94. The Company has been conferred with the prestigious ‘MoU Excellence Award’ on total nine occasions by the Department of Public Enterprises, Ministry of Heavy Industries & Public Enterprises for being the top performer in the Energy Sector, in which continuously for last six years in a row, an outstanding achievement. The Company has received ‘Excellent’ rating for FY 2009-10 also, continuing the track record of achieving ‘Excellent’ rating. Further, the company has also received Scope Award for Excellence and Outstanding Contribution to the Public Sector Management (2008-09) - Large Scale PSE Category.
