OREANDA-NEWS. March 25, 2011. Mitsubishi Motors Corporation today announced global production, as well as domestic sales and export figures for February 2011.
 
Production: Global and Japanese total
Total global production for February came in at 105,781 units, 10.4 percent up on the same month in 2010 and the second consecutive year-on-year monthly increase since January 2011. Production volume in Japan at 61,582 units was 12.7 percent up year on year, the fifteenth consecutive monthly year-on-year increase ongoing from December 2009. Passenger car output at 53,778 units was 12.0 percent up YoY. Commercial vehicle output at 7,804 units was 17.9 percent up YoY. Export shipments of the RVR compact crossover model introduced in February last year continues at a healthy level.
 
Sales in Japan
Vehicle sales in Japan in February totaled 13,764 units, 14.1 percent down on the same month last year and the sixth consecutive month they failed to exceed the figure for the previous year. Sales of passenger cars at 9,717 units were 20.7 percent down while sales of commercial vehicles at 4,047 units were 7.1 percent up. Registered vehicle sales volume at 4,285 units was 28.6 percent down on the same month last year. Minicar sales volume at 9,479 units was 5.5 percent down year-on-year.
 
Production overseas
Overseas production volume totaled 44,199 units, 7.3 percent up over February last year and marked the second consecutive monthly increase since January 2011. By region, output in Asia at 33,912 units was 4.6 percent up year-on-year, mainly on the back of 80.1 percent and 11.4 percent increases respectively at KRM in Indonesia and MMTh in Thailand. Output in China at 6,604 units was 25.6 percent down compared to the same period last year, due to closed factories for the Chinese New Year holidays. In North America, output at 4,122 units was 46.5 percent up over February last year as sales moved up on the back of a large-volume fleet order. In Europe, output at 2,866 units was 44.8 percent up year-on-year as production of a special-edition Colt model for the European-market pushed volume up. In South America, output at 2,910 units was 18.5 percent down year-on-year.
 
Export shipments from Japan
Total exports from Japan of 45,574 units were 56.9 percent up on February 2010, marking the fifteenth consecutive monthly year-on-year rise. Exports to Asia at 5,140 units were 28.2 percent up year-on-year, on the back of buoyant shipments to China and Malaysia. Exports to North America at 6,146 units were 133.6 percent up compared to the same period last year, driven by large increases in shipments of RVR and Outlander models to both the United States and Canada. Exports to Europe at 20,608 units were 142.8 percent up, boosted chiefly by major increases in shipments of Outlander and RVR models to Russia and Germany.
