Rosatom Ready to Assist Japan in Resolving Situation at Fukushima NPP

This was announced at briefing in Moscow on March 21 by Director of Rosatom State Corporation Communications Department Sergey Novikov. "As soon as the Japanese colleagues say that they need help, of course, we immediately come forward" — he noticed. Currently, according to S.Novikov, First Deputy General Director of Rosenergoatom Concern Vladimir Asmolov and Deputy Director of the Institute of Safe Development of Nuclear Energy of the Russian Academy of Sciences (Nuclear Safety Institute) Valery Strizhov, who visited Japan for rendering of advisory assistance already, do not plan the next trip.
"This is the initiative of the Japanese party," — Sergey Novikov underlined, adding that if it was necessary, the Russian side was ready to come forward to this request. Answering t the question about possible revising of the NPP construction program in Russia and abroad, S.Novikov stated the importance of the customers’ position.
“Colleagues from Turkey confirmed that Akkuyu NPP project would be implemented — he said. — Prime Minister of Bulgaria Boyko Borisov has recently come out for Belene NPP construction. As for NPP construction program in Russia, Novikov referred to the statements of Russian President Dmitry Medvedev and Prime Minister Vladimir Putin, according to which the development of fuel-and-energy complex without nuclear power "does not seem possible".
