Estonia: Specialists Say Wind Potential Yet to Be Tapped
OREANDA-NEWS. March 24, 2011. Some energy specialists say wind is a viable alternative to both oil shale and nuclear energy, and it could be used to generate twice the amount of energy currently consumed in Estonia.
Estonia should build more wind farms and more intensively develop wind energy storage technologies, professor Enn Lust of the University of Tartu's Institute of Chemistry told ETV from an alternative energy conference held in Tartu.
"If we look at what share of its wind energy map Estonia utilizes, we see it uses regions where the annual wind speed is relatively moderate," said Lust. "Estonia has large offshore areas where generation of energy from prevailing winds would be more efficient."
