Moldova May Increase Prices for Electric Power
OREANDA-NEWS. March 24, 2011. The Minister of Economy Valeriu Lazar said at the press conference that the the prices may grow within the next few weeks. It is connected with the fact that the contract with the Moldovan Hydroelectric Power Station on electric power supply is expiring on April 1, 2011.
According to which, the cost of a kilowatt/hour was 5.5 US cents. According to InfoMarket’s data, the new cost will amount to at least 6 cents (9% more), which is first of all due to the rise in the cost of natural gas and oil products, necessary for electric power generation. In its turn, it can lead to the growth of prices for electric power for consumers.
Lazar said he still remains an optimist and hopes to find necessary arguments in the negotiations and reserves to avoid rise in prices for final consumers.
