OREANDA-NEWS. March 23, 2011. The in-ladle inoculation station was put into operation on another molding line in the Iron Foundry of KAMAZ-Metallurgy Plc.. Now the line SPO-5 is added to the lines SPO-4, SPO-2, HWS-1, DISAMATIC-1and SPO-3 where the advanced in-ladle inoculation technology that consists in treating the iron with a cored wire, has been already introduced step by step. The wire feeding devices, industrial computer and software to control the parameters of melting and pouring processes were supplied by PROGELTA (Italy). And the metal structures of the station were made in the foundry.

That day the process of spheroidization was performed in the test mode. According to the data received from the express laboratory, the chemical composition of the produced metal meets the requirements for all parameters, it is the SGI of the required quality. The conclusion was made up that the technology had been mastered and the equipment was ready to pour.

The very pouring of the first one hundred molds will take place sometime later on. Based on the experimentation sheet, the castings of the front wheel hub, brake shoe and rear-axle reduction-gear housing will be first to manufacture. The foundrymen plan to switch all the range of products made on the line SPO-5 to the in-ladle inoculation with a cored wire in two – three months. It means 25 descriptions of large-size castings which are in their majority destined for KAMAZ-trucks.

By the way, according to the Investments Project for In-Ladle Inoculation that was launched at the foundry of KAMAZ-Metallurgy Plc. as early as in 2006, the line SPO-5 (with one station of spheroidization) was planned to be the last one to introduce the state-of the-art technology. But the specialists do not hurry to put a dot and consider the project as consummated. It is quite possible that a second station of spheroidization will be of need on the same line as the number of orders is growing and it will become a final stage. As yet, eight stations are used for the spheroidization process on six lines in the iron castings production area.
