OREANDA-NEWS. March 22, 2011. During the 12th five year period, Baosteel will continue to improve the factory green area distribution structure. It plans to build 3 by 3 green corridors through the whole factory, and  with the shelter forest separating surrounding residential areas and the green ring along Yangtze River they form the integrated factory green area system, an ecological garden, reported the press-centre of Baosteel.

Since its construction, Baosteel pays great attention in factory environment, with the green area improvement as top priority. After a long period of development, the factory's large green area now plays an important role in improving environmental quality, comprehensive function, and promoting coordinated and sustainable development of production and environment. In 2004, Baosteel is named as China's industrial tourism demonstration site by National Tourism Administration.

To enhance the comprehensive competitiveness and accelerate the pace of ecological construction, during 12th Five-Year period, Baosteel will continue to improve the green area distribution structure of directly linked factory, enhance the ecological functions of green area. Key construction includes green corridors through the whole factory, with  shelter forest separating surrounding residential areas and the shelterbelt along Yangtze River, which form the integrated factory green ring. The three vertical green corridors which let in fresh air from the Yangtze River are LianQi River ecological green corridor, Jin 4 Road and Jin 5 Road green corridors. Three horizontal green corridors are Wei 3 Road (the main axis), and Wei 5 Road and Wei 11 Road.

According to a new round of green area program, Baosteel will build integrated factory green area system. The 3 by 3 green corridors connect surrounding green spots. The central green area is the focus of construction. The factory buildings' green areas are the "green spots" and they form well organized marginal green spots. Ecological-wise, a complete green ecological system has more powerful functions to maintain higher productivity, has a stronger anti-interference ability, and obvious function in shading, cooling, noise reduction and bacteria sterilization.

Up to now, based on previous factory greening work, Baosteel has begun design and transformation on the central scenery axis' lines and nodes. Flower mirrors,flowering plants, landscape stones are added on the nodes to create rich and varied landscape features. On the lines, one to two kinds of  leaf and flowering plants are added on each road to enhance road seasonal landscapes. On the surface, the original closed-in, lush plants are intersected with plants of ornamental value, offering a wilder vision.
