Turkmenistan-UK: Towards Strengthening Cooperation
OREANDA-NEWS. March 17, 2011. The meetings with the members of the government delegation consisting of the heads of the diplomatic missions of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland in the Central Asian countries, the heads and senior officials of the British ministries and departments, who had arrived in the Turkmen capital a day before, were held at Government and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.
The agenda of the talks focused on the prospects for development of cooperation between the two countries. Focusing with satisfaction on high dynamics of intergovernmental contacts based on mutually advantageous partnership, which had been offered new incentives to develop, the meeting participants called for intensifying collaboration on the bilateral level as well as within the international structures, including in the Turkmenistan-European Union format.
The diplomats emphasized that the UK Government attached considerable significance to enhancing cooperation with Turkmenistan as a dependable and quite promising partner that stood as a bulwark of peace and security in Central Asia. In this context, the members of the delegation welcomed the peaceful foreign policy implemented by the Turkmen state and underscored the significance of the international initiatives put forward by President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.
The trade and economic and fuel and energy sectors to strengthen which there were the most favourable conditions and tremendous potential, were mentioned as the priority fields of Turkmen-British relations. Noting that the humanitarian sphere was a key aspect of interstate cooperation, the members of the delegation called for intensifying contacts in the spheres of culture, science and education. The topical issues of regional and international importance of mutual interest, including maintenance of global security, counteraction to threats and challenges of the modern world were considered during the talks.
