OREANDA-NEWS. March 16, 2011. TCL Communication (2618.HK) reported its business operating for 2010. It shows that, during the reporting period, the company’s sales volume of handsets and accessories throughout the year was 36.223 million sets. It achieved sales of RMB 7.555 billion, up 97.73% (up 100% in HKD), and net profit of RMB 611 million (HKD 702 million), hitting a record high in recent years, reported the press-centre of TCL. 

In 2010, TCL Communication maintained its rapid and stable momentum. The company’s sales volume of handsets and accessories throughout the year totaled 36.223 million sets worldwide, up 125% on a year-on-year basis. Its performance in overseas markets was particularly outstanding with sales volume growing by 155%, of which handsets’ sales volume in Europe, Middle East and Africa reached 13.40 million, up 109% on a year-on-year basis, and in the Americas grew 194% and reached 18.80 million sets. During the promotion period, it gradually shifted its business focus from ODM to private brand in the Chinese market. The company strengthened its domestic sales network and established more than 1,300 sales outlets, hence its sales volume in Asia Pacific grew more than twice year-on-year, reaching 1.9 million sets.

In 2010, TCL Communication  was described by Strategy Analytics as “one of the fastest-growing global handset manufacturers”. According to statistics released by Isuppli, the company’s handsets sales in the fourth quarter rose to the 7th place globally and its share in the Latin American market jumped to the 4th place, hence its market influence continued to strengthen. With the breakthrough in growth and its outstanding overall business strength in 2010, TCL Communication was honored with “Hong Kong Outstanding Enterprise Award 2010”.

After years of brand building, the company’s recognition and brand value worldwide has been increasing. To enhance its global leading position and open up emerging markets with its potential, the company strengthened its strategic cooperation with the world's major telecommunications companies and established closer partnership with the distributors in open markets. While maintaining its leadership in low-end markets, the company increased its input in R&D for high-end products and application of Internet content. Now, high-end products have accounted for about 20% of the company’s total sales value, showing that the company’s sales strategic transformation and product technology enhancement strategy are effective.

In product development, the company upholds the strategy of "upgrading product technology", continuing to improve the R&D capability of core technologies. During the reporting period, a total of 90 models were launched, of which OT-808 was honored with "China Red Star Design Award", OT-808 and OT-806 were both honored with “Cottontree Prize — China Original Product Design Awards”. The company’s first Android-based 3G smart handset OT-980 was officially launched in UK in October and was highly received by the market. The annual sales volume of three handset models: OT-208, and OT-808, OT-880, exceeded 3.5 million sets. In addition, through the win-win co-operation with China UnionPay (CUP), the company became the first handsets manufacturer in China endorsed by CUP as a secure platform delivery mobile payment which greatly enriches its handset Internet strategy and product functional applications.

As for content services, TCL Communication  achieved in-depth strategic cooperation with Baidu, Netease, Tencent, Sina, Oak Pacific Interactive, UC, Vogins Technology, and other mainstream domestic Internet application and content service providers, to fully build various Internet content and services in handsets. In building external partnerships with suppliers and channel partners, TCL Communication has co-founded TCL partnership "Internet World" club, together with network strategy enterprises and core dealers, to form a close union of TCL Communication , TCL dealers, Internet service providers and network operators so that multiple advantageous resources are effectively integrated.

TCL Communication said that, in 2011, the company will continue to enhance its core competitiveness, strengthen its strategic cooperation with telecommunications operators in various regions, and enhance its status in overseas markets, to further increase high-end handsets R&D, develop emerging market and expand product coverage. Moreover, the company will seize the opportunity of “network convergence” to increase its exploration in Android-based tablet PC market. It will also consolidate the market by upgrading its brand influence and overall product competitiveness, to promote continuous and rapid sales growth.
