OREANDA-NEWS. March 15, 2011. On the Eve of March, 8th Boeing 777 Freighter of Emirates SkyCargo, cargo division of the Dubai-based Emirates Airline, landed in Moscow Domodedovo Airport with over 60 tons of flowers from Kenya onboard.
The service became first commercial flight of Emirates SkyCargo to Moscow. Among other goods, the aircraft carried 450 thousand of roses weighting 64 tons in total. The flowers were efficiently handled by Domodedovo Cargo Terminal’s staff and delivered to consignees.
Emirates and Moscow Domodedovo Airport have been partners since the 1st of July, 2003. Emirates holds the leading position in cargo transportation volume among foreign carriers operating flights to the airport.
Emirates' 152-strong fleet is one of the youngest in the skies. Emirates SkyCargo’s fleet includes seven freighters (three Boeing 747-400Fs, two 747-400ERFs and two 777Fs) and now serves 111 destinations in 66 countries on six continents. In the 2009-10 financial year Emirates SkyCargo carried 1.6 million tons of cargo, an improvement of 12.2% over the year’s previous 1.4 million tonnes. Cargo revenue at USD 1.7 billion, including mail and courier, contributed 17.2% of the airline’s total transport revenue. In 2010, the carrier was awarded with ‘Cargo Airline of the Year’, ‘Best Cargo Airline to the Middle East’ and ‘Best All Cargo Airline’ at the prestigious Cargo Airline of the Year Awards 2009 from Air Cargo News and bestowed the Gold Award at the Annual Air Cargo Excellence Awards at the IATA World Cargo Symposium.
Domodedovo Cargo is the largest air freight facility in Russia. Domodedovo Cargo being equipped with state-of-the-art technologies provides for handling and storing of all types of cargo including dangerous goods on a 24 hours basis. The Terminal facilities occupying the floor space of 13400 sqm allow for handling of 600 tons of cargo per day which is 10 times more than the average capacity of cargo terminals of the majority of Russian airports while the average daily volume of cargo/mail handled in Domodedovo totals 425 tons.
