OREANDA-NEWS. March 14, 2011. The foreign partners describe the energy system's reformation process as dynamic. We will continue it more dynamically. Deputy Prime Minister, Economics Minister Valeriu Lazar made this statement at a today's final meeting with a joint mission in the energy field of Moldova's development partners, under the aegis of the European Commission's Energy and Transport Directorate-General, the Economics Ministry's public relations directorate has said.

Valeriu Lazar assured the foreign development partners that Moldova's government will continue the reforms in the energy sector. He noted that the leadership will focus on implementation of a string of concrete projects, among which the electric inter-connection lines and gas. The participants in the last meeting of the council for strategic planning adopted a matrix of policies in this area, which implies including Moldova s financial participation in working out the necessary documents to attract the necessary money and start the construction of the Iasi-Chisinau gas pipeline, as well for Moldova s accession to the European Network of Transmission System Operators for Electricity (ENTSO-E).

For his part, the head of the European Union Delegation in Moldova, Dirk Schuebel, said that the energy sector is one of the most important subjects in the EU at present. Therefore, he stressed, the Union views Moldova as an important partner to cooperate in this field, especially as both Moldova and the EU take considerable efforts to reduce the dependence from a single energy source.

The head of the EU Delegation emphasized that is he very contented with the progress made while implementing the above energy projects. Schuebel gave assurances that Moldova will benefit from the necessary assistance to this end - the EU will provide 42.6 million euros for the energy sector. Also, the European Union will back the process of reorganization of the National Agency for Regulation of Energy (ANRE), so that the latter becomes, as Valeriu Lazar said, an objective arbitrator on Moldova's energy market, which cannot be influenced. "We want to come out with financing. Yet, the latter should be confirmed by the Moldovan side's attachment to carry out the concerned projects," Dirk Schuebel stressed.

Swedish Ambassador to Moldova Ingrid Tersman said that the energy efficiency problem is a foremost one in Sweden. Therefore, she said, Moldova will be able to benefit from every support and expertise for the next four years, in order to start energy efficiency projects. "Dynamic is just the proper word to describe the march of reforms in Moldova. That is why, we are willing to discuss the eventuality of a twin partnership," the ambassador told Deputy Prime Minister Valeriu Lazar.

Representative of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, International Monetary Fund and World Bank said that the financing of energy inter-connection projects is part of the priorities of these institutions programmes for Moldova, along with the projects on financing reforms of the centralized heating-supply system and settling problems on the historical debts, as well as the Transnistrian side s debts for the consumed energy resources.
