Klaipeda Port Shows Best February Results
OREANDA-NEWS. March 11, 2011. In February of 2011 KlaipedaPort handled 2,92 million tons of seaborne cargo. i.e. more by 25,4 percent than in February of 2010. It is the best result of February throughout the overall history of the Port, reported the press-centre of Klaipeda Port.
In terms of the types of handled cargo the highest growing rates were recorded in containerised and Ro – Ro cargo sector. Ro – Ro cargo handling volumes successfully maintain growing tendencies calculating both in tons and units. 389,0 thousand tons, i.e. more by 29,0 percent, or by 87,5 thousand tons were handled in February of 2011. Calculating in units 18 947 units, i.e. more by 32,6 percent or by 4 660 units were handled comparing with February of the previous year.
In February of this year containerised cargo handling volumes (calculating in TEU) 25 168 TEU, i.e. more by 23,8 percent if to compare with the corresponding month of 2010. In terms of tonnage the turnover of containerised cargo handling increased as well. Calculating in tons the growth was 0,4 percent, totally 276,8 thousand tons were handled.
In February of this year 16 206 thousand passengers, i.e. more by 29,9 percent, or by 3 726 passenger Klaipeda Port. than during the corresponding month of 2010, visited 483 ships, i.e. less by 1,2 percent or by 6 ships comparing with the corresponding month of the previous year called Klaipeda port in February of 2011.
