Sakhalin Energy CEO Elected Chairman of UNGC Russia Committee
OREANDA-NEWS. March 11, 2011. Andrey Galaev, Sakhalin Energy CEO, was elected Chairman of UNGC Network Russia Steering Committee, reported the press-centre of Sakhalin Energy.
Mr. Galaev was nominated for the post by UN Development Programme (UNDP) Representation in the Russian Federation. The nomination was supported by the Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs and unanimously approved by Steering Committee members.
Election of Sakhalin Energy’s CEO as a Chairman of the collegiate steering authority of UNGC Network Russia is yet another testament to recognition of the continuing efforts the Company exerts in the area of sustainable development. The focus on sustainable development is Sakhalin Energy’s strategy, enabling it to reach its production targets while continuously monitoring the various impacts of its production activity on the social and natural environment of Sakhalin, where the Company carries out its operations.
Speaking about his election to the post of Chairman of UNGC Network Russia Steering Committee, Mr. Galaev noted: “This event imposes a great personal responsibility. Only by combining the efforts of business, governments and civil society we will be able to achieve progress in observing the ten fundamental principles in the areas of human rights, labour standards, the environment and anti-corruption”.
By joining the UN Global Compact in November 2009, Sakhalin Energy has became one of its most active participants. The Company’s sustainable development performance is highly respected by international and Russian professional organisations and institutes.
