OREANDA-NEWS. March 10, 2011. Belarus’ population was at 9,478,700 people as of February 1, 2011, a decline by 2,400 from January 1, 2011, the National Statistics Committee said in a report.

In January 2011, 8,386 babies were born in Belarus, a decline by 95 from in January 2010, and 11,775 people died, down by 616 year-on-year.

Natural population loss was at 3,389 in January 2011, down from 3,910 in January 2010.

Birth rate remained at 10.4 per 1,000 in January 2011. Death rate fell to 14.6 per 1,000 from 15.1. Death rate among children under one year of age was at 3.3 per 1,000, down from 3.8.

According to the committee, net migration inflow in the period amounted to 932 people.

The number of registered marriages decreased 10.2% in January 2011 to 4,224 and the number of divorces went up 8.8% to 2,841. There were 673 divorces per 1,000 marriages in January 2011, compared with 555 in January 2010.
