OREANDA-NEWS. March 10, 2011. It was said by the head of the European Union Delegation in Moldova Dirk Schubel at the meeting of the Ministry of Economy’s leadership with the joint mission in the energy sector of the development partners held in Chisinau at the end of the last week. Dirk Schubel said the matter mostly concerns funding of the Moldovan and Romanian gas and power infrastructure interconnection projects.

He said he is very pleased with the progress achieved in implementation of the energy projects and assured that Moldova would enjoy necessary support from the EU. According to him, the EU will also support restructuring of the National Power Regulatory Agency of Moldova for it to become an unbiased arbiter in the country’s energy market. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy Valerii Lazar assured foreign partners for development of the fact that the Moldovan government would keep on promoting reforms in the energy sector, focusing on implementation of some concrete projects with gas and power supply networks among them.

Representatives of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, International Monetary Fund and World Bank said funding of the energy inter-connection projects is a part of the priorities of these institutions’ programs in Moldova, along with the centralized heating system reform funding projects and solving of the problems connected with historical debts of the enterprises of this sector and of the Transnistrian region.

Sweden’s Ambassador in Moldova Ingrid Tersman said the sustainable energy problem is a priority in Sweden, so Moldova will be able to had all necessary support for the next four years to start the energy efficiency projects.
