OREANDA-NEWS. March 09, 2011. The President of Russian Railways Vladimir Yakunin has been awarded Austria’s Honorary Order of Merit. Yakunin received the highest class of the Honorary Order, the Grand Gold Order with Star, from Austria’s Minister of Transport, Innovation and Technology Doris Bures at a ceremony in the Austrian capital Vienna, reported the press-centre of RZD.

Yakunin received the award for his contribution to the development of cooperation between Russia and Austria and the strengthening of cooperation between Russian and Austrian companies.

The Honourable Order of Merit of the Republic of Austria is a state award granted for achievement in the fields of politics, economics and culture and the spiritual and social spheres.
The Grand Gold Order with Star is awarded to senior ministerial and federal officials and to prominent public figures not involved in politics.
