OREANDA-NEWS. March 01, 2011. Russian Railways Vice-President Oleg Tony told reporters that the Company planned to launch test runs on the new intermodal railway line connecting Adler to Sochi Airport in December this year, reported the press-centre of Russian Railways.

"The implementation of transport infrastructure projects in Sochi is on schedule thanks to our good preparation ahead of the future construction work. We have already completed more than half the work, and in our view, we had already achieved much by the beginning of 2011. So we’re fairly confident about completing all the projects on schedule," said Toni.

Currently under construction is a 2.8km stretch between Adler and Sochi Airport. This new intermodal railway line is of great importance in the transport infrastructure plans for the XXII Olympic Winter Games and XI Paralympic Winter Games to be held in Sochi in 2014.

The rail-air express should be able to provide transportation for some 70% of plane passengers or more than 80,000 people a day. Trains will run every 25 minutes. Passenger traffic is due to commence in summer 2012.
