Moldova Asks EBRD to Co-Finance Construction of Pipeline Ungheni-Iasi
OREANDA-NEWS. February 28, 2011. It was said during the meeting of the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy of Moldova Valerii Lazar with the principal banker of the EBRD Natural Resources Department Matteo Colangeli.
It was said that construction of this reversing gas pipeline had been approved by Chisinau and Bucharest and included into the protocol of the Moldovan-Romanian cooperation of May 24, 2010 and the Memorandum between the Economy Ministry of Moldova and the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Business Environment of Romania of October 25, 2010.
The main goal of the gas pipeline is to provide alternative sources of gas supplies to gas transport systems of the two countries. The approximate cost of the project is 19-20 million euros. 7 million euros of the needed money will be allocated by the European Commission under the joint operational program of Romania-Ukraine-Moldova. 3 million euros are intended for Moldova and 4 million euros – for Romania.
To cover the general project costs, Moldova needs addition 6-7 million euros investments. Valerii Lazar asked the EBRD to contribute to development of the projects of unification of the energy systems of Moldova and Romania and, respectively, the European Union. The joint work group has already chosen the approximate route of the gas pipeline. It will be 40 km long, with 31 km in Romania and 3 km in Moldova.
