SAIL Receives Shining Star CSR Award
OREANDA-NEWS. February 22, 2011. Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) received the maiden Wockhardt Shining Star CSR Award in the Iron & Steel Sector category. The award was presented by Sh. Salman Khurshid, Honourable Union Cabinet Minister for Water Resource and Minority Affairs, to Mr. C.S. Verma, Chairman, SAIL at a glittering ceremony held at Mumbai on 19th February, in the distinguished presence of Nobel Laureate Prof. Muhammad Yunus. In his acceptance speech, Mr. Verma said "SAIL contributes to society through its schools, hospitals, health centres, sports academies and other activities. In fact SAIL's annual spend on CSR activities goes much beyond the stipulated 2 per cent of distributable surplus."
SAIL serves the neighbouring community through 17 hospitals, 7 speciality hospitals and 54 primary health centres. SAIL contributes to educational development through 146 schools in SAIL townships and 286 schools outside townships. The company runs 5 sports academies for hockey, football, athletics and archery and has other sports facilities and programmes for all-round development of sports.
