OREANDA-NEWS. February 21, 2011. The decision of the Moldtelecom on introduction of new tariffs for fixed telephony services starting from March 1 will be cancelled. Moldovan Prime Minister Vladimir Filat is insisting on it. Speaking at the government’s sitting, Prime Minister said the National Agency for Competition Protection earlier had established the dominant situation of the Moldtelecom in the market.

Taking into consideration this fact, the national fixed communication operator is to come to agreement with the government first about its decisions regarding rebalancing of tariffs, and not with certain ministries or structures.

According to Vladimir Filat, the current situation with the rebalancing of tariffs stipulating the rise in the user charge for local communication services many be called a cartel agreement between the state institutions, given the fact that Moldtelecom belongs to the state.

Prime Minister urged responsible persons to work out a clear position regarding Moldtelecom, to determine its situation in the market, not to allow rise in tariffs, and to examine issues concerning the enterprise’s activity, its investments in 2010 and in previous years, assess their efficiency.
