OREANDA-NEWS. February 17, 2011. The first meeting of the Inter-Agency Working Committee on Rail Security, set up at the initiative of Russian Railways, took place, reported the press-centre of RZD.

Taking part were the President of Russian Railways Vladimir Yakunin, Deputy Interior Minister Viktor Kiryanov, the head of the Federal Agency of Railway Transport Gennady Petrakov, representatives of the Federal Security Service Sergei Chernyshov and Sergey Zazulin, the head of Transport Security at the Federal Air Transport Agency Yuri Saprykin and other officials.

Opening the meeting, Vladimir Yakunin thanked his colleagues for supporting the Company’s initiative to set up the working group and for their attendance.

The participants discussed rail security, including changes to legislation and technical equipment at rail facilities. Experts from the air industry shared their expertise in this area.

The meeting noted that the Company’s management bears the legal responsibility for ensuring rail transport security, including the provision of anti-terrorist measures. The meeting agreed on the need for appropriate legislative changes to implement these new and demanding challenges.

In accordance with guidelines set by Russian president Dimitry Medvedev, a joint-action plan was developed and tasks allocated to the various agencies.
