Freight One Shipping Volumes Increase by 50% in Eastern Siberia
OREANDA-NEWS. February 15, 2011. In January 2011, more than 920 thousand tons of freight was loaded onto Freight One’s railcars, which is 50% higher than the figures for January 2010.
Specifically, thanks to the low temperatures in January, demand for coal saw a significant jump at heating plants in the Irkutsk region. Freight One hauled more than 500 thousand tons of solid fuel in gondola cars to meet the region’s energy demands. By comparison, 304 thousand tons of coal was shipped in January 2010.
Also this January, Freight One’s Irkutsk branch broke the box car shipment volume record — more than 125 thousand tons (an increase of more than 100% compared to 2010). The increase in shipments was due to a rise in exports of cellulose and paper, which Freight One ships to Chinese consignees from plants in Bratsk and Ilimsk.
