OREANDA-NEWS. February 15, 2011. In 2010, ROSNO Security Department prevented insurance fraud attempts against the company in the total amount of 200 mln roubles. Each year, employees of the Security Department uncover about one thousand cases of fraud. As before, swindlers are mostly lured by motor insurance (MOD and OMTPL), reported the press-centre of ROSNO.

In 2010, the most popular fraudulent schemes were: insurance coverage of an already crashed car and overstatement of the amount of damage. The highest incidence of fraud was noted in the North-Western, Ural and Southern okrugs.

Last year, the efforts made by ROSNO Security Department in the North-Western Okrug jointly with the road police and other regional insurers resulted in the disclosure of several groups of fraudsters specializing in stealage of expensive cars in St. Petersburg and St. Petersburg Region.

Staged traffic accidents are also very popular among swindlers. Taking this into account, ROSNO has developed certain criteria for analyzing insured accidents, which can be used by the company employees to single out suspicious cases in a prompt manner. At present, we view the probability of paying the insurance compensation under a staged traffic accident as quite low. Once of the most recent such cases occurred in Vologda. Having insured his Mitsubishi, which, in fact, was already damaged in a traffic accident, the insurant arranged nighttime transportation of this car by evacuator on the Vologda — Chelyabinsk highway, then ordered unloading it into the roadside ditch and called road police. Thanks to the efforts made by the Security Department employees who promptly uncovered the fraud, the Vologda regional police opened criminal investigation against the insurant under the Article 159 (Fraud) of the Criminal Code. At present, the investigation is under way.

The swindlers from Voronezh attempted using the same scheme to stage a traffic accident with their BMW X5. During verification of the accident information reported by the insurant, the company uncovered the signs of fraud. Currently, the case is being checked by the police department of the city of Voronezh, and the insurant has already waived his compensation claims.

In 2010, ROSNO Security Department performed 3,190 pre-insurance investigations, leading to denial of insurance coverage in 373 cases due to presence of a malicious intent. The company furnished law enforcement authorities with documents on 107 cases involving misconduct towards the company, resulting in opening of criminal investigation in 38 cases.
