OREANDA-NEWS. February 11, 2011. Ecological production produced in Moldova and exported will be marked by the national mark - Agricultura Ecologica - Republica Moldova. The obligatory labeling of the ecological agricultural production will be introduced in the country. It is stipulated by the amendment to the Law on ecological agricultural production passed by the parliament to bring the Moldovan legislation in ecologically clean agricultural production output in line with the European Union’s standards.

The draft law describes the methods and main principles of the ecological agricultural production in crop production and livestock sector, possible methods of tilling, permissible fertilizers and organic matters, livestock maintenance conditions and others. Under the law, the national mark Agricultura Ecologica - Republica Moldova will be applied onto the package of only corresponding to ecological requirements production. The national mark will indicate the place where the agricultural raw materials used for production of the product were grown. If agricultural raw materials were grown abroad, the mark Agricultura Еcologica non – Republica Moldоva is to be applied.

The mark Agricultura Еcologica/non – Republica Moldоva will be applied when a part of the raw materials was grown in the country and another part – outside of the country. The mark Agricultura Еcologica – UE will be used if the raw materials were grown in the European Union. The right for using the national mark Agricultura Ecologica - Republica Moldova on products, labels and packages of ecological agricultural products will be received by companies producing, processing, importing, exporting and/or selling ecological agricultural production, registered at the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry.

The ecological production import and export rights will be worked out by the competent institutions and approved by the government. Ecological agricultural product imported from the third countries may be placed in the Moldovan market provided that a number of conditions are observed.

The law stipulates that the ecological agricultural production development will be supported in Moldova by the agricultural producers subsidizing fund, created in the state budget structure every year. As it was reported earlier, ecologically clean agricultural production is produced in Moldova by about 100 companies which will be able to obtain the respective national mark, the Ministry of Agriculture has already registered 65 companies willing to receive it.
