OREANDA-NEWS. February 10, 2011. The year of 2011 will be an important year for the energy sector of Moldova, - IDIS Viitorul. According to the study “Seven preconditions for strengthening of the energy sector of Moldova in 2011”, this year the situation will be favorable for sustainable development of the energy sector of Moldova. The presidency in the Energy Community provides a new status and new motivation to Moldova enabling it to enhance the country’s energy security and participate in the energy market on the basis of the equality and mutual benefit principles.
Besides, having such a status, Moldova could insist on development of the Council of Energy Security Issues in Europe or, at least, in the South-East Europe. “Thus, the problems faced by the states which are completely or strongly dependant on one energy supplier will be better comprehended in order to foresee crises like those happened in 2006 and 2009”, said expert Ion Muntean. On the other hand, revision of the contract with Gazprom would allow obtaining favorable conditions for Moldova.
The main issues subject to be examined are the gas purchase price calculation formula, review of the Moldovagaz ownership structure and payment for gas transit to Balkan. According to Ion Munteanu, our country should also connect to the alternative supply system, for example, to Romania, the fact that will enable to get access to any source available in the network by means of the projects crossing the western part of Romania. The Chisinau Sustainable Energy Strategy will also be elaborated in 2011.
