OREANDA-NEWS. February 01, 2011. The Russian Federation Government approved of the transnational Agreement for collaboration in the sphere of peaceful nuclear power with Turkey.

As it is said in the Governmental resolution letter of January 20, 2011, a bill of Agreement ratification was proposed to the Russian Federation State Duma. Russia and Turkey signed the Agreement for collaboration in the nuclear sphere in August, 2009.

The transnational Agreement for collaboration in the peaceful atom sphere is a frame document that provides a legal platform for joint projects realization. The document covers a wide range of interrelations, among them scientific research, nuclear objects engineering and operation, nuclear materials supply, services of nuclear fuel cycle provision, uranium occurrence reconnaissance and development.

The Agreement is signed for 10 years with the following automatic prolongation. Earlier, in December, 2010, Russia ratified the Agreement with Turkey for the first Turkish NPP construction at Akkuyu site. The document was signed in Ankara on May 12, 2010.

For the NPP construction Akkuyu Elektra, an engineering company, was founded by Russian companies – Atomstroyexport CJSC, Rosenergoatom Concern, Inter RAO UES OJSC (PTC: IRAO), Atomtekhenergo and Atomenergoremont.

Akkuyu NPP will consist of 4 power units with power capacity 1,200 MW each. The Russian Federation Government will provide the prime conductor, Atomstroyexport CJSC, with a credit on preferential terms. The repayment will be performed for the expense of the power produced by the NPP. Turkey guarantees the purchasing of a definite power volume for a definite price for 15 years from the moment of each power unit start-up. Earlier Sergey Kiriyenko, Head of Rosatom, estimated the cost of Akkuyu NPP as approximately equal to 20 billion USD.
