OREANDA-NEWS. January 28, 2011. Meeting of a working group of the garrison rural settlement where Petrozavodsk international airport is located was held on January 25 at participation of Alexey Solnyshkov, chief of the department for maintenance of activity of the antiterrorist commission for the Republic of Karelia, Ruslan Taunanov, representative of the administration of the emergency operations center for the Republic of Karelia, representatives of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in the Republic of Karelia, Petrozavodsk airport, local self-government of the settlement.

The meeting took place in pursuance of the instruction of the President of the Russian Federation to tighten security in airports and other large transport hubs of the country due to the act of terrorism in Moscow Domodedovo International Airport. Opening the meeting Alexey Solnyshkov, chief of the department for maintenance of activity of the antiterrorist commission for the Republic of Karelia, has pointed out that the act of terrorism which happened in Moscow obliges to take additional measures to improve security of the population in territory of the republic.

As head of the garrison rural settlement Vyacheslav Mikheyev has reported, local authorities take necessary measures to tighten security of the settlement. Situation in the zone of the settlement and the airport is under control. The information presented by the chief of the aviation security service of Petrozavodsk Airport independent institution of the Republic of Karelia Alexander Padalko has also shown that scheduled work directed on maintenance of security measures in territory of the airport is conducted, recommendations on problems of antiterrorist security are followed. Currently, in territory of the airport antiterrorist measures have been strengthened, control in the zone of passenger terminal has been tightened. Flights arriving in Petrozavodsk and departuring from Karelia undergo strict control, additional luggage check is accomplished.

At the same time, members of the working group have pointed out the necessity of well co-ordinated cooperation of local authorities with the airport management, as well as with with enforcement agencies, including the transport line department of internal affairs. In the opinion of members of the working group, more precise organization of protection of the residential zone of the settlement is also necessary.

During the meeting necessary recommendations have been issued for the management of the garrison rural settlement. On results of the meeting directions of further teamwork on maintenance of antiterrorist security of objects located in territory of the settlement have been stated.
