January 26, 2011.  President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov received the top managers of the well-known Japanese companies, Toshikazu Hayashi, President and CEO for Kawasaki Plant Systems, Ltd and Tatsunobu Sako, CEO for Sojitz Corporation, President for Machinery Division.

Expressing gratitude to the Turkmen leader for the opportunity of a personal meeting, the businessmen focused on the intense interest of their companies as well as the Japanese business circles in intensifying cooperation with Turkmenistan that was facilitated by the pace of economic growth the country, where the conditions conducive to mutually advantageous cooperation, including the favourable investment climate, had been created.

Greeting the guests, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov focused with satisfaction on effectiveness of collaboration between Turkmenistan and largest Japanese companies noting that TODAY these traditional business contacts were brought to a qualitatively new level and promoted in a wide range of fields.

A substantial exchange of views on the prospects for cooperation in the framework of ongoing large-scale programmes of reforms and projects aimed at modernisation of all sectors of the national economy took place in this context. In this regard the guests noted that a new powerful impetus to enhance Turkmen-Japanese partnership had been given by the official visit of President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov to Japan in December 2008, which had resulted in signing the important bilateral agreements. These included the Framework Agreement on construction of plants producing ammonia and carbamide in Mary signed with the consortium of the Japanese companies Kawasaki Plant Systems, Ltd and Sojitz Corporation. The Japanese businessmen emphasized that their companies considered it great honour to contribute to implementing this large-scale project of considerable importance for Turkmen economy.

Reaffirming that Turkmenistan was committed to the strategy for mutually advantageous international partnership, the Turkmen leader focused on the profound potential of Turkmen-Japanese collaboration, which opened up most favourable opportunities to expand and diversify effective business contacts in the whole spectrum of fields. In this regard, the expertise of the leading Japanese companies including Kawasaki Plant Systems, Ltd and Sojitz Corporation, which rank among the world’s leaders in innovative technologies and manufacture of high-tech equipment, could be of great practical use in Turkmenistan, which oriented towards modernisation of the national economy, said President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov. Thus, the implementation of the project of the industrial facility in Mary, which was totally worth USD 1 billion, was the beginning of large-scale joint work in mutual interests.

In turn, the Japanese guests emphasized that Kawasaki Plant Systems LTD and Sojitz Corporation strove for close long-term cooperation with Turkmenistan as a very dependable business partner.

In conclusion the President of Turkmenistan and the top managers of the Japanese leading companies expressed belief that bilateral collaboration based on a pragmatic basis would be developed successfully further.
