OREANDA-NEWS. January 17, 2011. The annual Victory Ball, traditionally held on Russian Military Glory Day in commemoration of the defeat of the Nazi troops in the Battle of Moscow, was organized at the Museum on the Poklonnaya Hill Saturday December 4. The event was organized by United Metallurgical Company, the Maris Liepa Charity Foundation, and the Central Museum of the 1941–1945 Great Patriotic War. "Many intrepid soldiers and officers defended the capital of our country," emphasized Chairman of the OMK Board of Directors Anatoly Sedykh in his speech addressed to war veterans. "They were from Moscow and Ryazan, Tula and the Siberia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Latvia and of other USSR republics. The fact that the Victory Ball dedicated to the 65th anniversary of the Victory is attended by veterans from nearly all parts of the former Soviet Union is a remarkable evidence and reminder that we fought fascism all together. The Victory was won by the Soviet Army and the heroic Soviet people. And we should always remember this. No present achievements would have been possible without that greatest victory in the history of all wars. Please accept our profound appreciation, dear veterans!"

This has been the fifth Victory Ball. United Metallurgical Company, the Maris Liepa Charity Foundation, and the Central Museum of the Great Patriotic War decided to make this event a good tradition and hold it annually in acknowledgement of the valor and dedication displayed by the Great Patriotic War heroes.

This year the Victory Ball was attended by 300 veterans from Moscow and the Moscow Region, as well as 110 veterans from Ukraine, Belarus, Tajikistan, Kazakhstan, Moldova, Armenia, Kyrgyzstan, Azerbaijan, Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, Georgia, Abkhazia and the Hero Cities of Russia, heads of the All-Russian War Veterans' Organization from Tula, Saransk, Orel, Voronezh, Tambov, Kazan, Chelyabinsk, Orenburg, Makhachkala, Petrozavodsk, Nizhni Novgorod, Kurgan, Pskov, Bryansk, Yekaterinburg, Saint Petersburg, Kaliningrad, Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk, and Chita.

The festive concert organized for Great Patriotic War veterans featured performances by masters of arts, entertainment star, including People's Artists of Russia Lev Leshchenko and Oleg Gazmanov, People's Artist of Russia and Tatarstan Renat Ibragimov, People's Artist of Russia and Georgia Tamara Gverdtsiteli, the Russian Cossacks dance ensemble, singer Zara, and others. A special 40-minute version of the festive evening will be shown in a live television broadcast Monday December 6 at 9:00 p.m. on the AMTV Internet Channel at http://amtv.ru in the "EFIR" [On Air] section (located on the left center above the capital letters AMTV).
