OREANDA-NEWS. December 31, 2010. Steel pipe and railway wheel company Interpipe, the railway wheel producer under the KLW brand, recently presented new railway wheel construction for heavy loaded transport at the international scientific and practical conference ‘Railing – wheel 2010’ that was held in Odessa, Ukraine.

Interpipe is continually working on increasing the effectiveness of railway wheels, specifically when used under conditions of constant speed and heavy load for several years. As a result of this work, Interpipe patented the wheel construction with an S-shaped disc in 2008. The new wheel structure, presented by Interpipe during the conference, offers increased operations reliability.

In striving to achieve optimal wheel construction, Interpipe NTRP engineers developed new solutions to replace mechanic characteristics of wheels. For instance, Interpipe representatives advised that the optimal chemical ingredients of a new steel grade can provide increased operations and improve reliability and safety of its wheels.

Michael Iskov, Director for railway wheel sales at Interpipe said: “Taking into account the fact that today the problem of deterioration of a set ‘railing – wheel’ is typical for all the CIS countries, KLW developed and suggested a new effective solution. The new wheel construction that we presented at the conference is a solid wheel with an S-shaped disk, which offers increased operation reliability. The wheel has been produced from a new steel grade with considerably reduced consistence of carbon and increased consistence of manganese and silicon. As a result, the wheel can carry an axe load of more that 25 tons and overhaul run up to 160 000 km.”
