OREANDA-NEWS. December 29, 2010. Branch of JSC FGC UES – MES South – started construction of Imeretinskaya – Ice Palace 110 kV cable power transmission line (Krasnodar Region). The works are performed within the framework of Federal Target Program "Development of Sochi as Mountain Climatic Resort (2006 - 2014)". The new transmission line is intended for power supply of the facilities constructed for the Winter Olympics 2014.

Imeretinskaya – Ice Palace 110 kV power transmission line nearly 2 km long shall pass across the territory of the Sochi National Park. Cable type line shall ensure preservation of the unique flora and the landscape of the resort. Both grids of the line shall be laid in special trays inside one trench. Due to this solution both the time required for construction works and the costs of the construction project shall be reduced. Cable lines with cross-linked polyethylene insulation feature a number of advantages as compared to overhead transmission lines – they are more environmentally friendly, reliable and safe to operate.

Altogether nearly 100 km of 110 kV cable lines shall be built in the Sochi Region by the 2014 Winter Olympics. Construction of 110 kV Laura – Rosa Khutor and Poselkovaya – Rosa Khutor is already completed. These shall ensure power supply of the ski center, snowboard park, etc.

In 2009?2014 the Federal Grid Company shall construct, renovate and reconstruct a total of 23 main power grid facilities on the territory of the Sochi Region.
