OREANDA-NEWS. December 29, 2010. AB ORLEN Lietuva expert Commission, consisting of physical pipeline security, ecology, technical analysis, mechanical and other specialists, was formed and started the investigation on 28 December pipeline Polotsk-Ventspils accident. Due to this accident the diesel fuel spread over the territory of approximately 20 ares. The Commission shall identify the causes of the accident, evaluate the consequences and losses resulting from the emergency response, estimate the thorough measures for avoiding such accidents in the future.

The Commission is working at location collecting the actual data. After cutting out the damaged segment of the pipeline, it will be transported to Mazeikiai refinery, where a technical investigation will be conducted. The Commission work may take up to two months.

The damage to the environment will be estimated together with the environmental protection specialists and compensated in accordance with the legal acts valid in Lithuania.

At this moment the diesel fuel is being collected into auto trucks and transported to Rokiskis railway station where it is reloaded into rail tank cars. From there it will be transported to Mazeikiai refinery for refining. The Company specialists are working continuously in order to eliminate the accident consequences as soon as possible. Pipeline repair works are being performed at the same time.
