OREANDA-NEWS. December 27, 2010. Turkish Petkim Petrochemical Holding, the controlling interest of which belongs to SOCAR, along with organizing production meeting modern demands, pays attention to social safety of its workers as well as the whole population of the Izmir region.

Having considered serious consequences of the smoking for the health of people, Petkim management launched a positive project establishing “Quit Smoking” polyclinic under the Company. Speaking at the opening ceremony, Mr. Oguz Kilich, professor of the Department of Medicine at Turkish “Dokuz Eylul” University and head of Tobacco Organization of Izmir region, underlined the fact that such project had never been implemented before and other companies should take a pattern by it.

By mentioning that 17 million people smoke in Turkey now, Mr. Kilich added that this number increased by 80% in last twenty years and pointed out the gravity of the danger. Expressing her gratitude for the great support in opening the policlinic, Ms. Hatice Kaygin, assistant director general of Petkim Petrochemical Holding, said the Company has announced 2011 as the ‘Year without Smoking’ and takes all necessary measures for provision of health safety of its workers.

According to her, such policlinic, working round-the-clock, will create great opportunities for the people, who do not have enough time to attend other clinics. Mentioning the fact that three employees have already registered for treatment at the polyclinic, Ms. Kaygin said that their achievements will serve as stimulus for other ones.
